Indian Restaurants Shrewsbury

With Indian food being one of the nation's favourites, Indian takeaways are plentiful in any town, but Shrewsbury seems to have more than its fair share of Indian restaurants. Of the 70 million Indian meals consumed every year in the UK, almost 3 million are eaten right here in Shrewsbury. Actually we've just made that up, but judging by how busy our restaurants are, they must be serving some great food!

You won't find many people who do not enjoy a good curry from time to time, and everyone will have their own opinion of which is the best. You ask one person and they will swear that the place just up the road from them does the best chiken tikka masala they have ever tasted. They will tell you that they have eaten in numerous other Indian restaurants but nothing compares to the one they know best. Sounds like a good recommendation so you pay the place a visit, and end up disappointed, thinking that it is nowhere near as nice as the local restaurant that you usually frequent.

The thing is, people know what they like and like what they know. Most of us are not very adventurous. We order our Indian takeaway from the same place, we always visit the same Indian Restaurant, and we always order the same meal. Perhaps part of the reason is that we don't really know what alternatives are available. If that is the case, please read on for our guide to the Indian Restaurants of Shrewsbury.

Shrewsbury's Indian Restaurant Trail

Let's start with the restaurants inside the river loop. Walking from English Bridge towards Wyle Cop, the first Indian restaurant is Ramna Balti House. It used to be Parveen, but this recently closed. We never received any reviews for it and I never saw anyone in there so I am surprised it lasted as long as it did. Take a left towards the river and you'll find Masala by St Julian Friars car park. At the top of Wyle Cop, is Sheraz. A couple of doors down used to be Shuvecha, but that closed and is about to re-open as Spice Lounge. The next cluster of restaurants are over the other side of town towards Welsh Bridge. At the bottom of Mardol we find The Indian Village and The Curry House. While on Hills Lane is Cafe Saffron. Across the car park on Claremont Bank was Claremont Indian Restaurant, but this has now closed. Outside the river loop but still very much in town, is Shalimar, located in the shadow of the Abbey. And Third Place, which is opposite Theatre Severn in Frankwell. And finally, on the outskirts of town you will find Onslow Balti Lounge in Bicton Heath, Saffron Cottage on the Welshpool Road, and Anjali's at Lea Cross.

Indian Take Away

If you haven't got time to stay and sit down or want the curry delivered to your door, as well as many of the restaurants above, the following Shrewsbury businesses offer take away curry: Ganges Takeaway, Seven Spices, Chilli Spice, and Mahim
