Welcome to The Cornhouse.
The Cornhouse is a very popular restaurant and wine bar set in a Grade II listed building, full of warmth and friendliness.
The food is delicious and the range of prices reasonable.
The building is beautiful on the outside and this is reflected by the atmosphere inside and the welcome extended by the team which includes Grant Pennington - the proprietor for 20 years.

Corbet Arms

The Corbet Arms has been re-opened for four weeks. There's a bar...

Over-priced average food. The starter of half a small goats cheese tart (£5.75) was served cold, and the tofu stir-fry main was nothing of the sort - 3 thinly sliced squares of marinated tofu on a few bits of veg, and not a noodle in sight! At £14 a rip-off. This was the first restaurant I've left feeling hungrier than when I arrived!

Can be a bit cramped. Pleasant staff, more seating upstairs. Good choice of lunch menu. Special includes drink, main course, tea or coffee at a fixed price. Changes daily. Food well cooked and tasty.

The Cornhouse occupies a fine building at the bottom of Wyle Cop and the food is consistently good. I can't help thinking though that the main evening menu is more expensive than other restaurants in town of similar quality. The lunchtime specials represent better value here.

I have been to the Cornhouse many times, but the last visit was a bit poor. After telling our friends how good the food was, we were left a bit embarrassed. I had the steak, which for the price was terrible. Having said that, we had a Christmas party at the Cornhouse and everything was lovely. Our party of 20 guests left very pleased.

As a visitor to Shrewsbury, this restaurant was recommended by a resident of the town, as I was looking for a good steak. Decor, service and atmosphere were excellent, however, the food let me down. I ordered a sirloin steak cooked medium, which was served over-well done, cut in half with each half placed unneccesarily on top of each other. The accompanying vegatbles, garnish and handcut chips were fine but at £18.95 for a main course it didn't live up to expectations

The Cornhouse is a great looking restaurant, facing Tanners Wines at the bottom of Wyle Cop. We ate there a few months ago and the food was a cut above. I'd definitely recommend it. The only let down was a live piano player (electric keyboard) who, while talented, was far far too loud and we couldn't make ourselves heard across the table. If you manage to eat on a night without live music you will surely enjoy the food. The menu wasn't huge, which is always a good sign, and there was a specials board.

Attractive looking traditional restaurant on two levels at the bottom of Wyle Cop. Former corn warehouse and corn merchant's house. Highly regarded locally. Often have live music.
