Visited for the first time after a recent Tanners wine tasting. Best Indian food I'd ever had. Friendly service, efficient and courteous. I shall certainly be re-visiting and so will the other 7 guests I was with

Recommended by a friend, I ordered a takeaway from Masala tonight (St Julians Friars) and it was very good indeed. Order ready to collect within 15 mins (tikka masala, rogan josh). The food was fresh, flavoursome, hot(temperature) and very satisfying (tasty coriander naan too and crisp poppadoms). Very reasonable prices. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Even though I had to collect, it was worth getting in the car for and parking not a problem. Would definitely use this curry house again. Thanks.

john and his staff always make you feel welcome. We have been going there about 5 years and the food has been spot on every single time.

I've visited this restaurant quite a few times over the years, the service is always excellent and can't be faulted, efficient and friendly. The food is reasonable and a few years ago was pretty much in line with what you'd expect from an Indian restaurant.
However I think that Indian food in the UK has slowly been changing for the better over the years. No longer are people expected to be happy with the old favourites tika masala, balti, korma etc. People now expect that little more, a deeper and more complex flavour. Unfortunately they haven’t embraced this challenge and continue to send out the same food, which in my opinion is no longer good enough.
But clearly judging from how busy the place gets at the weekend this is not a point shared by everyone, but everyone is entitled to an opinion.

Has to be the best Indian in Shrewsbury, based on service, quality of food and consistency. Never had a bad meal from John and his staff. Have tried others as they dont deliver but it's worth jumping in the car and collecting your meal, it's that good.

This is one of my favourite places to eat. The food is always very good (best onoin bhajis i have ever had). John is always very warm and friendly, the food is always served quickly, even when the place is busy. I just love the place.

Tucked away on St Julian's Friars, Masala is another great little Indian restaurant. We went on a Monday night and there were only two other groups dining. There was soft music playing (not Indian) and the open plan dining room was well lit. Most of the activity was centered around the front of the building, where the restaurant's takeaway service was proving popular.

The menu was quite extensive, with some more unusual dishes as well as the madras, rogon josh, korma staples. We started with poppadums with mint yoghurt, onion and coriander, mango chutney and lime pickle. This was followed by lamb sagwalla, chick pea sagwalla, plus sides of bombay potato and tarka daal. The food was served quickly and the waiters were very friendly. The portions were quite big but that didn't matter because the food was excellent. We were also given complimentary onion bhajis mid way through the meal which was a nice touch.

The best asset the restaurant has is its manager, John Mustafa. He is always front of house and is the friendliest person you could hope to meet. He used to run the Eastern Eye takeaway in the village of Bayston Hill on the edge of Shrewsbury, and such was his reputation that 50% of his trade now comes from the same village. In the takeaway he used to shake everyone by the hand as they left and happily he still does the same in his restaurant.

Spacious Indian restaurant and takeaway. Big portions and tasty food. The owner is a local celebrity and you are sure of a warm welcome.
