The Old Post Office is a traditional family pub & hotel. We serve an excellent new menu throughout the day. Click on the Restaurant Link for the full menu and details on booking a table. For more information on accommodation please click on the link above.

The Old Post Office dates from the 16th Century and is the last of 5 public houses that were licensed in Milk Street. The others were The Angel, The Beehive, The Mug House and The Sun Tavern. The Old Post Office has kept the same name throughout it's history. The has nothing to do with The Royal Mail, but refers to a posting house horse-drawn coaches and as late as 1900 there was stabling for thirteen horses. Wagons to Lyth Hill, Condover, Ryton and Wheathall would depart the inn on Wednesdays and Saturdays of each week.

The pub currently has six hotel rooms and a function room which is available for private parties as well as playing host to a wide variety of live music events. The building is Grade II Listed and many features of the original building still remain. The pub maintains it's reputation for excellence with a wide range of traditional cask ales and home-cooked food.

The Old Post Office, or O.P.O as it is known locally is the last of six pubs that inhabited Milk Street. The name has nothing to do with the postal service, rather it started life as a coaching house. You can still eat, drink and sleep here but it was the eating that I was interested in when I visited yesterday. The menu had quite a few tempting options but being Sunday, the Sunday roast was too good to miss, especially as it had been recommended by more than one other person. There was roast pork or roast beef on offer. The pork came with a nice piece of crackling while the beef came with a home-made Yorkshire pudding. There was plenty of food on the plate and it tasted good. For £6.95 you cannot go wrong.

Good pub food served in a very old half timber building. Hidden away off Milk Street this is a good find.
