If you haven't visited the Market Hall at Shrewsbury then you are missing out. Before 2003 the market operated as a pannier market, with benches let by the yard. Sadly, the market was modernised, but still retains many great local food traders who have been at Shrewsbury market for decades. Radford Quality Meats offer a wonderful selection of meat, ranging from the traditional cuts of beef, lamb, pork and chicken to kebabs, perfect for the barbecue, and the most delicious ready meals. Telephone orders are most welcome and can be delivered any week day after 4.00pm. Steve supplies a number of local restaurants. All the pork and chicken he sells is local and free-range. The beef is hung for a minimum of 21 days and the beef and lamb are sourced as locally to Shrewsbury as possible. Steve provides a friendly and knowledgeable service to his customers.

John Bliss Ltd sells fresh beef, lamb, pork, veal and chicken, together with a wide selection of cooked meats, home-made burgers, kebabs, marinaded meat, pickled tongue plus seven varieties of bacon, gammon, ham shanks…the list goes on and on! Telephone orders are welcome, along with any specialist orders for barbecues or parties. John is happy to give advice and will make any variety of burgers, sausages, koftahs, marinated chicken, pork, beef, lamb, etc. Delivery is free in the Shrewsbury area. Well established, family run business since 1967. John and his staff provide great customer service which makes for a vibrant customer/staff atmosphere. He sells locally produced meat plus prime, well hung “Scotch Premier” beef from Inverurie, very humanely produced veal and all his beef is traceable to point of origin. He cooks his own ham, shoulder bacon, roast pork, roast beef, roast brisket, tongue, brawn, roast beef (rare if you like it!), roast lamb and turkey.

Barkworth’s is a long established business, well-known for its exciting selection of fresh and frozen fish. To compliment the fish, fresh herbs and selected fruit and vegetables can be bought at the stall. The fish comes from high quality inshore day boats, specialising in Cornish and Scottish fish, which means that the fish is far fresher than any supermarkets. Cook and Carve (sister to Appleyards) is a popular delicatessen, specialising in cooked meats, cheese, bacon and sausage. All bacon is home-produced from locally sourced pigs. The sausages are handmade and the cheeses are mainly in the traditional farmhouse style.
