Restaurants in Shrewsbury

When is a restaurant not a restaurant? For ease of navigation we have split the businesses on eatShrewsbury into more managable chunks. For this reason you will not find all the restaurants that Shrewsbury has to offer on this page. If, for example, you are looking for Italian restaurants, or Indian restaurants, then you need to use the menu at the top of the page. The restaurants on this page, by and large, serve traditional British fayre, albeit sometimes with an overseas twist.
Just to complicate matters, sometimes it is difficult to tell the difference between a pub and a restaurant. Many restaurants have a bar and serve drinks, and many pubs have a dedicated seating area for dining, and employ great quality chefs. As we have a dedicated page for each type of establishment, you may wish to check both pages to make sure you don't miss anywhere exceptional.
While we do not have the variety of restaurants here in Shrewsbury that they have on offer in the capital, we do have plenty to choose from and our fair share of award winning chefs, such as John Barton, Head Chef at the Coach and Horses, and Marcus Bean, formerly of the New Inn Baschurch, now operating the cookery school at Brompton.
Our location in one of the most rural counties in England, gives our restaurants access to some of the best produce this country has to offer. Not to mention that which we can glean from our friends across the border in Wales! The restaurant industry has been obsessed for a long time with the mantras of locally sourced, and seasonal food. In the big towns and cities, restaurant chefs have to stretch the meaning somewhat when applying it to their weekly menus, but here in Shropshire, any chef who is not using local and seasonal produce is probably spending far more than they need to, and offering second rate food in their restaurant.
