Me and y family have known the owners of this restaurant for many years and have been going to the golden cross since its been open, the food has always been splendid and the service, marvelous. although i must admit that the prices make it quite hard for us to dine there too regularly, we enjoy eating there on special occasions (mothers day, fathers day, birthdays...etc)

I went here wth my girlfriend to celebrate her birthday recently and it was a superb dining experience, and really the first complete meal I've had in Shrewsbury where the food lives up to the restaurant's aspirations. The menu contained a good selection of choices that lived up to their billing - my shallot tarte tatin in particular was great (though I didn't think the celeriac that came with it was needed, the tomatoes were enough/perfect). The wine list was also great - we had a lovely bottle of cotes du rhone. What stood out for us was the ambience generated through the excellent interior design - it was a pleasant place to be. We will definitely be returning.

First time visitor to this restaurant as part of a party of six. Nice cosy restaurant. Had to wait 50 minutes for starter to arrive and was disappointed that a party of five (obviously regulars) who arrived some 20 minutes after us received their meals first. We drew this to the waiters attention who said there was a mix up in the kitchen. We suggested that they reimburse for the extra drinks we had to buy for the lengthy wait for our food to arrive (which they did). The food was very nice although two meals were given to the wrong people and had to be swapped. We will revisit in the future but hopefully the staff will make sure that new customers are treated as well as the regulars are.

Usually love this place, dont know if it has changed hands or whether its just run out of steam. Both the service and standard of food on my last visit couldn't be compared to the previous excellent standards they used to achieve. Disappointed

Very good food in a small but cosy and romantic setting. Intriguing menu meant my first visit was not going to be my last - if you think the only really good restaurants are French or Italian you won't be disappointed here.

Always great food, and always a very welcoming and warm atmosphere. I can't recommend the Golden Cross more highly. I've been there for quiet lunches and with all the family for celebrations... the restaurant is perfect for either. Good pudding wine too!

This is one of my favourite restaurants in town and a group of us have a booking soon. Top Marks.

While the food sometimes disappoints (uniformity of texture and taste, perhaps many dishes or sauces prepared in advance?), the atmosphere and warmth of the owners always compensates

One of my favorite Shrewsbury restaurants, the food is consistently imaginative, well cooked and made with tasty fresh ingredients. The atmosphere is cozy, relaxed and comfortable and the prices very reasonable considering how good the food is.

I visited recently with a friend for a mid week lunch. The dining room is quite small but cosy and lovingly furnished - this place is as interesting on the inside as it looks from the outside.
We both went for the steak sandwich - lots of juicy steak, home made chips and dressed salad. Not cheap but the food is good and the surroundings comfortable. I will happily return.
