This riverside pub/bar/restaurant is a great place for a weekend lunch or midweek dinner, although it can get busy with drinkers on weekend evenings, and attracts diners of all ages. The building is actually an old armoury but has had many uses including a hospital and bakery and interestingly was moved to its current position from its original site in Armoury Gardens (see their website below for some fantastic photographs of the building being moved). The room, although large, has a cosy feel due to the eclectic selection of chairs and tables and the book lined walls. (They are real books, I once took one out to check!). When you enter, turn left for the best tables for diners and, if you can, book ahead and reserve one.

You will need to go to the bar to order but apart from that the service is good and you aren't kept waiting long for your food. The menu covers such old favourites as bangers and mash with delicious Shropshire sausages, good fishcakes, a vegetarian moussaka with just the right amount of spice and a selection of sandwiches at lunchtime. The food is always well cooked, although perhaps slightly on the pricey side for Shrewsbury for what is really an upmarket pub. An added bonus is the large range of beer and wine to choose from to accompany your meal.
